Nunc coepi was popularized by Venerable Bruno Lanteri, an Italian Catholic priest of the early 19th century. He used it as encouragement for those striving to live virtuously despite personal weaknesses or failures. Lanteri emphasized that no matter how often one falls or makes mistakes, one should immediately rise and begin again, trusting in God's mercy and guidance. He advised that this mindset should be applied daily and even hourly — a continual renewal of effort and faith.

The phrase translates literally to "now I begin" and originates from Psalm 76:11 in the Latin Vulgate (Psalm 77:11 in most English translations). It has been widely used in spiritual and motivational contexts.
